Common Service Centre (CSC) is a scheme initiated by the Government of India under its Digital India program. CSCs are physical centres established to provide various government and non-government services to citizens in rural and remote areas of India. These centres are operated and managed by local entrepreneurs known as Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).
The objective of Common Service Centres is to make essential services accessible to citizens in rural areas, where internet connectivity and digital infrastructure may be limited.
CSCs offer a wide range of services, including:
Government services: CSCs provide access to various government services such as issuance of birth and death certificates, Aadhaar card enrolment, ration card applications, utility bill payments, land records, and other government forms and applications.
Banking and financial services: CSCs offer basic banking services like account opening, deposit, withdrawal, and money transfer through their partnership with banks. They also facilitate services related to insurance, pension schemes, and microfinance.
Digital literacy and skill development: CSCs provide training and support for digital literacy to empower citizens in rural areas with essential computer and internet skills. They also offer skill development programs to enhance employability.
The Common Service Centre scheme aims to bridge the digital divide and promote digital inclusivity by bringing essential services closer to rural communities and facilitating their participation in the digital economy.
